As the season changes, the apples start pouring in, the winter squash make their annual debut, and there is a hint of pumpkin spice wafting through the air – and in our coffee drinks. The season also brings with it cooler season produce that still holds the sweetness of summer: sweet potatoes (like the humongous harvest from Cabbage Throw, above!), salad turnips, spinach, sweet peppers, grapes, and oh-so-much more! After a hot summer, these drops in temperature come as a huge relief, just in time for the Autumnal Solstice and the return of the flannel.
To get a head-start on the season: make your own pumpkin spice blend! All it takes is cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger. Some say a dash of allspice and/or black pepper does the trick! You’ll find yourself sprinkling it on your coffee, tea, yogurt, ice cream, toast? Don’t question it, embrace it.
