It’s been a great week to be a plant! With this week’s rain, the greens have been growing and glowing… and so have the weeds. Shelf fungi the size of hubcaps have been exploding out of decomposing trees. The Delaware and Lehigh rivers were breaking the banks, encroaching upon the pedestrian paths and flooding the boat ramps.
All of this rain has been a welcome addition to a very dry early Spring, enabling our farmers and all of you home gardeners to transplant without having to crank on the irrigation full blast, or run watering cans back and forth. It’s these Spring rains that bring the anticipation of a season full of incoming seasonal abundance. Saturday marks another first sighting of the season: Phillips Farms is bringing the first strawberries!
