This month, thus far, has seen communities coming together to lighten the load during tough times. There has been an outpouring of support for our neighbors in need during the federal shutdown, creatively crafting donations, food drives, and pay-it-forward campaigns. The market is a place to bring everyone together to foster collective support for our neighbors and ensure fresh, local food reaches everyone who needs it. If you are able to give, please consider donating to our food drive this Saturday, in partnership with local Easton council members Crystal Rose and Frank Pintabone. Donations will go to Easton-area pantries.
We also have some incredible efforts by our vendors with big hearts. Chiqui Woodworking is offering a black walnut coffee table for those who donate to support supplemental SNAP funds. Raffle winner is announced this morning so be quick to donate to win – and feel good doing so! Cabbage Throw Farm is offering pay-it-forward $10 donations of nutrient-dense root crop bags. Locally grown, nutritious food is a right for all. Scholl Orchards is offering shoppers discounted $25 bushels of apples that will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank. This program is in partnership with Buy Fresh Buy Local -Greater Lehigh Valley.
In other market news, catch The Smokin’ Pasty this week, as it’s their final of the season! Tom and Carla have been shining lights this year, and if you haven’t had one of their pastys – now is your chance! Additionally, I’m sure you all missed Rich from Allerton Creek Farm & Sharpening last month, but he’s back and ready for your blades! Bring ‘em to the market to get them in tip-top shape for squash-slicing season.
