Celebrating International Women’s Day

Celebrating International Women’s Day

This week, while talking with a local woman grain farmer and enthusiast (“hi” Teena from Red Cat Farm if you’re reading this!), she shared a memory of the women farmers she remembers seeing as a child at the market:

I grew up in Easton and remember my grandparents taking me to the market when it was at the circle, way back when there was minimal traffic and the farmers would park their old trucks right around the circle at their tables, and the women would be wearing printed dresses and black shoes, they smelled of cow manure, and their stockings were rolled down to their ankles -that was close to my level of sight as a child.

Times might have a changed a little bit, especially the style of dress, but the work ethic and dedication of our women doers, makers, bakers, farmers, and shakers still remains the same. There are some seriously hard-working and creative women that come to the market week after week – and you might just be one of them! From artists to photographers to recipe developers to caretakers to yoga instructors to mothers to….you get the point. We wouldn’t be here without the women in our lives, and we sure as heck wouldn’t have a market without them. Give the women in your life some extra gratitude this week for all they do, and for being.

30 vendors lining up on Northampton this week (3/8/25), with a wonderful array of seasonal items. For example, The Flour Shop and Apple Ridge Farm will both have their take on Irish soda bread, so try ’em both before St. Patrick’s Day!  Check out more of this week’s Fresh Market Picks, Recipes & Vendor Line-Up in our E-Newsletter!
