A June Jamboree

A June Jamboree

June weather that feels like July. Good news for produce in the ground, but this also means heavy irrigation for our farmers. Heat can be a blessing once you get crops in the field, but plants are thirsty, and our farmers have to deal with all of the season’s unpredictability. The Cabbage Throw Farm team summed it up well in their newsletter this week:

“Between unpredictable weather, heavy rains, crop setbacks, and soggy market weekends, there were certainly moments when the start of the season felt like an uphill climb. Farming is always an exercise in patience and resilience, and this year has required plenty of both. Despite the challenges, we’re excited about what’s ahead, larger harvests, clean fields and lots of planting!”

For those that were able to join us last week, thank you for braving the unexpected wind chill and blustery conditions for our annual Strawberry Day! Many of our vendors sold out of strawberry goods quickly, so if you’re a mid-late market mosey-er (like me, typically) than you might have missed out on some of the strawberry goodness. We are so appreciative of the community’s support and -great news!- we’ll have more this week! Phillips Farms of NJ has been busy pickin’ and will have loads of strawberries fresh from the farm! They are in peak season, but they don’t last long, so be sure to get there early!
